This project simply involved putting a new deck on an existing small fibre cement clad weekender at Culbura Beach (near Jervis Bay) NSW. The house was not to be touched, and the deck was to be the 'extra room' the clients needed to fully enjoy family life at the beach. The deck is to be the focal point of the house, as a place to come and sit, eat and sleep after swimming or surfing at the beach. The new roof has been angled for best solar access in winter (and to 'open out' to the beach), yet blocking out the full summer sun. Lockable storage areas at each end of the deck allow a place for a BBQ to be permanently installed at one end, while the other allowed for foldable outdoor furniture to be stored between visits.
